Tupari Vineyard, Awatere Valley

Tupari Wines is a small, specialist wine company located in the Awatere Valley sub-appellation of Marlborough in the South Island of New Zealand.

At Tupari we have a vision to create fine wine that is made to accompany food and not over power it. The Tupari style is one of understated elegance with intensity of flavour and fine palate structure.

We believe that our dedication to quality combined with our understated style has produced an excellent wine, the sort of wine the world should expect from the perfectly positioned Awatere Valley.  We encourage you to give it a try.

About Tupari

Tupari is owned and managed by David and Heather Turnbull in partnership with award-winning winemaker Glenn Thomas and his partner Sharon Inwood. Glenn has been making wine in Marlborough since 1986, winning numerous awards along the way including winemaker of the year in 1992.

The families have known each other since they all arrived in the Awatere Valley in 1988 – Glenn to make wine on the lower reaches of the Awatere River and the Turnbull’s to farm further up the Valley.  At family gatherings there was always talk of growing grapes and making wine.  Glenn saw potential in the small north facing terraces, nestled on the river flats of the Turnbull’s property "The Cliffs". Finally in 2002 the vineyard was planted and Tupari was born, "Tupari" being the local Maori word used to refer to the magnificent cliff's at the eastern end of the vineyard.
